Fire Bombing Injures Mother, Baby

DETROIT – A mother and her one-month-old baby are clinging to life. Their home was firebombed early Thursday morning. Two people managed to escape from the home unharmed.

Nothing but charred and blackened walls remain where a family was sleeping. Four people were inside the house on Carlisle around 3:00 a.m. when police say it appears someone threw firebombs through the front and side windows.

19-year-old Martise Washington was upstairs asleep. “I just came down the stairs and everything was just black,” he said.

Washington and his younger brother made it out safely, but family members say 20-year-old Kentoya Washington and her one-month-old baby were trapped inside. Both were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

“We don’t know what’s going on. Lately, things (have) just been happening in the neighborhood, and it’s like my parents’ house has been a target,” said Donna Gray, the victim’s aunt.

She says just one month ago, someone fired shots at the house where her elderly parents have lived for seven years. Gray says she doesn’t know why, but it’s clear someone is trying to kill her family members.

“We have no problems with (anyone) on this street. So, we have no idea what’s going on,” Gray said.

Loved ones are now praying the mother and baby will recover from their injures.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police.
